Mapuche
community center Pelontuwe: Three years after the murder of Jaime Mendoza Collio
Aug 19, 2012

On Wednesday, 14, at the Mapuche community center Pelontuwe of the Universidad de la Frontera in Temuco was commemorated the life and death of Weichafe(warrior) Jaime Mendoza Collio, who, while they were trying to reclaim their community lands now occupied by the landowner Jarpa Sergio Gonzalez, was cowardly killed with a shot of an Israeli Uzi rifle in the back by the policeman Miguel Jara Muñoz, who covered by the misnamed forces of order, claimed it was a 9 mm pistol in self-defense. A set-up denounced by the Forensic Medical Service of Angol and Temuco. We should rather call them, watchdogs of their masters the landowners, who have taken the ancestral lands of the Mapuche with the permission of those in power, those who also receive their share of their Chilean, U.S. and European masters.

There, in the heat of the participants, mostly young students, was conducted this thoughtful and informative day on the continuing struggle for territorial recovery carrying out by the Mapuche communities.

It featured presentations from the Machi (spiritual leader) Tranamil of Rofwe, Daniel Melinao, Werkén (spokesperson) of Wente Winkul Mapu, Monika Quezada, mother of the also murdered Weichafe Matias Katrileo and his sister Catherine Katrileo, and comments from many participants.

On the side artistic-cultural, was appreciated the poetry of Rayen Kuyen and Alexander Stuart, the Hip Hop trio Rebel Mapu and the always welcome strength in singing and music from Colelo with the group Peumayen, very brilliantly accompanied by a beautiful child of three years who came spontaneously from the public to dance Choike Purrun, and great shouts of the master sound-man Hugo Pena, always present in our musical activities.
